Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement in response to news of the passing of Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD):

"From his humble birth as the son of sharecroppers to a historic career that spanned decades of dedicated civil service, Rep. Elijah Cummings personified the promise of America. His commitment to realizing that promise for all Americans was evident in his passion for civil rights and his dedication to the downtrodden. He left an indelible mark on America and the institution of Congress. Nancy and I send our condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Congressman Cummings during this difficult time."
